BTC’s Cosmetology program offers more than just a certificate for licensure. You will graduate with an Associate of Applied Science degree (AAS).

Learn cutting techniques and salon-ready skills from instructors with experience in the industry. 

BTC’s Cosmetology program gives you a well-rounded education that mixes hands-on hair experience with in-class lessons on topics relevant to success in the industry:

• Shampooing
• Skin care
• Nail care
• Modern hair cutting and styling
• Tinting and bleaching
• Permanent waving
• Chemical relaxing
• Wig care
• Artificial hair
• Blow-drying
• Iron curling

Students also learn about safely handling chemicals, sterilizing equipment, treatment for hair disorders, salon management, retail selling, cosmetic chemistry, electricity, and anatomy and physiology. 

After you first quarter of training, you'll enjoy hands-on experience with real clients at BTC’s full-service salon space in downtown Bellingham. Technical skills and customer service skills are strengthened as students work with clients on bookings, interpreting clients’ wishes for their hair, and managing feedback.  

Time to Graduation. Bellingham Technical College's new Cosmetology program is designed to be completed in five full-time academic quarters, including summer instruction.

Flexible. Choose from a full-time or a part-time option that provides the best flexibility for your schedule.

Financial Aid. The program is eligible for financial aid.

State Requirements. BTC's curriculum meets requirements established by the State of Washington for cosmetology for both theory and practical applications.
